Career Transition is Personal. Very Personal.

What exactly do executives want and expect from their consultant?

Major life changes are times when we have to face ourselves, test our assumptions, review our habits and approaches and open up to input and reflection.

We are all works-in-progress, and career transition is one of those life events that can, and should, provide insights that will be valuable as an individual continues forward professionally and personally.

Clements United recently completed research with 130 former clients to learn what they considered important and expected from their career transition consultant.

The research, as indicated by agreement with the statements, showed executives want a consultant who:

  1. “Will challenge my assumptions” (100%);
  2. “Can encourage me as necessary” (99%);
  3. “Can deliver a difficult message” (98%);
  4. “Has deep experience (15+ years) providing Career Transition services to executives (98%);
  5. “Has a practice focused on executives” (97%.)

This shows executives in transition want honesty and they need to feel there is sufficient gravitas and experience, to be able to deliver, explore and help them to determine, what if any learning is to be had.

Successful coaches have the ability to get to know their players, to understand what their strengths and weaknesses are, to recognize a competitor’s level of confidence, and figure out the best way to communicate with that individual, at that point in time. They are able to learn what motivates that person, and have the experience to be able to do so.

Developing the insights and relationship that will enable the effective integration of the feedback and learning is crucial and only possible when there is a delivery model that provides for high-touch, one-on-one interaction. Previous research showed 96% preferred one-on-one interaction to webinars or group meetings.

Clements United is based on the idea that our clients are “our players” and we will establish a one-on-one relationship which is nurtured and continues in trust. This includes times when a person needs to hear something that while difficult, will be helpful.

We help our clients through a very personal experience that is filled with ups and downs and aim to deliver a service that they would recommend…even to, or especially to, their best friend.
